How long will it take for natural evolution to help humans adapt to the new challenges and dangers that have come with technology and a growing population?
Will humanity be able to transform itself, reaching a new level of intelligence that can solve most of its problems, or will humans continue destroying each other?
What will we choose? Will people pretend everything is okay, or will we choose the pragmatic approach to our future as a species?
Natural evolution is too slow (just reread Darwin and say out loud the numbers — millions and hundreds of thousands of years of biological evolution) and very unpredictable. We cannot simply rely on it for positive results in the future. There is no clear understanding or guarantee of when the next stage will happen, what conditions will be like, or if it will happen at all. What we see now might be the highest peak of evolution for Homo sapiens. And why do we assume that any future evolution will be an upgrade for humanity? What if evolution takes a different path and reduces some of our current abilities, thinking they are unnecessary? Human physical and mental activity tends to decline year after year. Technology makes us do less and less, which could affect how we evolve in the future. This might lead to local changes or adaptations to a changing environment. Even with potential positive outcomes from future genetic engineering, it will only solve certain and local problems for humanity.
Therefore, we need controlled changes.
All current forecasts based on various models for future events on Earth are very pessimistic. To shift these projections to at least a neutral outlook, humanity must reach a higher intellectual level and overcome its relentless drive for mutual destruction. Instead of focusing on destruction, we should prioritize creation to ensure the survival of the human species and maintain Earth as the best place for life for as long as possible. Only by reaching a new intellectual level can we effectively plan for our future over hundreds or even thousands of years. Without this shift, humanity risks facing one of the apocalyptic scenarios often depicted in movies.
Therefore, we need fundamental and revolutionary changes.
The idea of developing multi-planetary life is valuable as a positive step toward technological progress and discovering new knowledge, but not as an alternative to life on Earth. All evidence suggests that the human body has very limited, or rather hypothetical, chances of surviving in radically different environments with our current level of technology. Human interstellar travel remains an idea mostly seen in movies and books, where fictional technologies do not reflect reality.
Only a new level of thinking will give humanity a chance for survival and the preservation of human civilization in the future.
Even if we find solutions in the future to reduce the effects of external factors on the human body, we will not be able to replicate the comfortable living conditions we have on Earth. It is crucial to understand and accept that there are no better living conditions for humanity in the solar system. If we destroy life on Earth, what will stop us from doing the same on Mars, for example? The same people, with all the same human flaws and problems, will live there.
Humanity needs change and transformation. To achieve multi-planetary life, interstellar travel, and a new level of thinking, we need a “revolution”, not evolution — one that we control, not chaotic, and that offers advantages and opens up new horizons of possibilities. Fundamental changes for humanity and a shift to a new level of civilization are only possible with new tools and opportunities.
This cannot be achieved without a singularity revolution for the human race.
